This book provides a guide to how audiological tests can help in the diagnosis, assessment and management of patients. Since the publication of the first edition in 1986, there have been many technical advances such as cochlea implants, bone anchored hearing aids, oto-acoustic emissions and magnetic resonance imaging. There has also been considerable change in attitude to the psychosocial aspects of vertigo and tinnitus with an increasing emphasis on counselling. Hearing aids have become much smaller and have a greater range of acoustic options. Real ear measures of hearing aid gain greatly increase the ability to tailor this to the pure tone audiogram, and computerized methods are available to estimate likely benefit. This edition discusses these changes in practice. Chapters on paediatric otology have been added.
