Summer hates the spooky house on sight when they arrive at Calico Acres with their housekeeper, Josephina, on a cold, snowy January day. As unexplained events occur throughout the year, Summer, Josephina, and even their gossipy neighbors try to make Marc give up his insane idea of owning the house. But Marc is determined to stay. He desperately wants the house and feels a strong connection with his late aunt, although he had never met the woman and his family never discussed her except to say she was crazy.
Dr. Marc searches the house for details of Miriam’s life, while his wife is forced to confront secrets from her own past. He must discover who or what is haunting Calico Acres before the year is up, or risk losing his inheritance, the woman he loves, and perhaps even his mind. Little does he realize how close he is to losing all three.

I want this house

If such a place as Wisconsin's Calico Acres does exist, I’m moving there, ghosts or no ghosts. Author Bonnie Turner has painted such vivid descriptions of the setting, characters, and mysterious happenings that I couldn’t put the book down. How fortunate for young and handsome Marc St. Clair, inheriting an awesome Victorian house, if only Summer, Marc’s handicapped wife shared his enthusiasm. Add to that, weird happenings, things that go bump in the night, and the gorgeous temptress Raven. Yes, there is something for every adult reader—intrigue, conflict, betrayal, shaky relationships, past indiscretions, and skeletons in the closet—all of which get resolved in a timely manner that kept me reading to the end. And then I wanted more.

In October 1978, Dr. Marc St. Clair decides to live in his great-aunt Miriam’s house. The terms of her will stipulate he must reside at Calico Acres for a year, or the Victorian house goes to an orphanage.
Marc falls in love with the house, and pooh-poohs the rumors it’s haunted. He’s determined to move his wife Summer from Iowa to Wisconsin.
After an equestrian accident, Summer is confined to a wheelchair. Unhappy and moody, the last thing Summer wants is to go to Wisconsin.
As old secrets cast long shadows into the present, Marc must solve the mystery before it’s too late.

A Romance Surrounded by Mysteries

Wow! Is it one ghost or several? Mysteries pile up in this quick read full of ghostly situations. Josephina, the maid, senses the spiritual influences in the house that makes both her and Summer dread the year they have to spend in the house. After that Marc would then inherit his aunt's unusual home.
On top of the mysteries, there is the strange relationship between Dr. Marc and his beautiful wife, Summer. Does she love her smoking hot husband or not? Would his wheelchair-bound wife rather live with her parents on their estate in Iowa than in Wisconsin with her husband?
Finally, there is the added complication of the secretive, Chippewa, Raven Bear, who becomes Summer's physical therapist. The only thing she's not secretive about is her physical attraction to Dr. Marc.
