More than I expected

As soon as I opened the box and pull this book out I immediately started reading it. All I could do is say "WOW!" This book went beyond my wildest expectations.

The biggest bit of praise for this book should go for the well laid out and very detailed appendixes. This has everything that one would want in a book about a particular unit. Not only the OOB well laid out but the commanders are giver too.

Great book on the history of the 11th Volunteer Panzer Grenadier division Nordland. Detailed accounts covers the division from beginning to end. What makes this a real stand out are the many original photographs donated from actual members of the division that were used throughout the book. Most were never published before, and lot of new detail and history shows in the writing as seen from the German side of this elite division.

This book was required for class, and my teacher specifically recommended the 4th edition because it was cheaper and had everything in it that we needed to know.

There is so much information in here about loans, taxes and investments that people need to know. If you have been wanting to learn more about finance - and how it affects your life and your future, this book is a great place to start.

No Access Card was Included

I love my Pearson Personal Finance book! This book explains everything from ratios to tricks with your taxes using easy to understand explanations and fun corrolations to well-known tv shows. It is everything and more than I had hoped for upon purchasing it. When I bought it, though, it said that it included the access card for the MyFinanceLab and eText online. I never received the card and had to purchase, again, the MyFinanceLab seperately at $55. This book had already cost me almost $200 which was supposed to include the MyFinanceLab, but it wound up costing me a lot more. I would give the book alone 5 stars, however the unincluded MyFinanceLab brings that score down. Make sure before purchasing this, the access card is indeed included when you buy the Personal Finance and MyFinanceLab package.

You Get What You Pay For

I won't even call this a book. It is the first 12 chapters of a book and not even enough character or story development to make me to read the rest let alone buy the rest. There is no resolution of any sort at the end. Usually a series has an ending of one part of a story and you like that story and the characters so much you want to read what happens next to them. I am still seeking justice for those killed in the plane wreck because all this book did was let you know there was a crime which you get in the title and synopsis. So read those two things and you have read this book.

Screaming Cliffhanger :( Yea I hate cliffhangers. I would not recommend this book to anyone. It's only 12 Chapters of a book. I don't really see how it can be drawn out much more the end of this book tells you WHO ordered the hit....I guess book's 2 and 3 could be about knocking off her son and daughter too who know's. I will NOT be buying any of these books to find out. I hate wasting my time on books like this.

Nowhere in her book description does it say this is a trilogy....She call's it a series...This is not a series it's book 1 of a trilogy.

So far, I'm the only reader who didn't like this book. I didn't realize, my own fault, that it's a three parter. But there was nothing that made me want to read the next two. I found the non-American spelling of some words to be disconcerting and, seriously, who replaces the expression "wild goose chase" with "goose-hunters"?

Understand the biblical roots of the liturgy!

Over the past 40 years, there has been a revival within the Catholic Church recognizing the biblical roots of the liturgy. Figures such as Scott Hahn have led the way for Catholics - and non-Catholics - to understand the deep Scriptural basis for the various liturgies within the Church, especially the Mass. Fr. Jean Danielou was the forerunner of this revival, and this book, "The Bible and the Liturgy" is one of the foundational stones of this edifice.

Fr. Danielou, who was made a Cardinal by Pope Paul VI in 1969, was a major figure in the "resourcement" movement in the Catholic Church leading to Vatican II. This movement desired to "return to the sources" for understanding all aspects of Catholic theology including the liturgy; the sources they wished to return to were primarily the writings of Scripture and the Church Fathers. This book, originally written in 1956, is a splendid fruit of this movement, as Fr. Danielou explores the biblical roots of the liturgy as understood by the Church Fathers. The book primarily focuses on the three sacraments of initiation: baptism, confirmation, and the Eucharist, and follows the development of the rites of these three sacraments, from their biblical roots to their practice in the first five centuries of Christianity. But where this book really shines is in its analysis of the Sabbath and its successor, the Lord's Day. Fr. Danielou explores the various images the Fathers used to explain the transfer of the day of worship from Saturday to Sunday, the "Eighth Day." This is theology that is often forgotten today, but it has a very practical application in helping Christians today to set aside a day for the worship of the Lord.

This is a book that can be read again and again to much profit. The University of Notre Dame Press is to be commended for republishing this classic of liturgical theology.

The classic study on Biblical typology in sacramental liturgy

This book by a Jesuit priest and scripture scholar, a.k.a. Cardinal Jean Danielou of the Roman Catholic Church, is a classic study in typology. Typology, a Christian theological method that usually studies how Old Testament texts prefigure the faith of Jesus Christ, dates to the early Church Fathers. Danielou puts a unique twist on it here, studying the Biblical typology that appears in the liturgies of the Christian sacraments, specifically the three sacraments of initiation: Baptism, Confirmation, and Eucharist. Citing a wealth of patristic sources, he shows how liturgical symbols like the waters of baptism find their type in OT stories like the crossing of the Red Sea. It's a very dense book, being more academic than popular, and I wouldn't recommend trying to breeze through it. I spent several months on it and set it aside to finish at a later date. But if you're serious about this sort of thing, it's really the last word on this particular topic, offering a 1950s foreshadowing of the renewed emphasis on liturgical symbolism that flourished in Catholic theology after the Second Vatican Council. Kudos to Notre Dame University and its "Christian Classics" imprint for reprinting this text.

Amazing text

This is one of those texts on the liturgy that every MA Catholic theology student will want to own a copy of, along with Vagaggini and Pope Benedict XVI. While sellers here have the book at an extraordinary cost, it is available from the Franciscan University of Steubenville bookstore [...] for $25.95 (retail). I secured a new copy through their bookstore this week. As far as I can tell it is out of print now though (unavailable through Notre Dame, the publisher).
