ABOUT TIME!!!

I've waited a long time for this--as I'm sure many other Trower fans have. It's about time one of the greatest rock guitar albums of all time was published in TAB. It's dead on by the way--note for note..challenging..not for beginners. It's a priceless peek into the genius of Robin Trower and his amazing song writing and guitar playing skills, and further proof that he was not a Hendrix rip off artist.... not by a long shot. Now I hope they TAB the "For Earth Below" album.

Trower Power

I own quite a few Hal Leonard "recorded versions" music books. The tab is easy to understand and from there you can change the arrangements and create your own solos. You should however, be proficient enough to understand tabulature. For "Bridge of sighs" it also helps to own a dunlop rotovibe (or similar) as Trowers' signature sound is the rotovibe. Not manditory though.

It's an accurate transcription of all tracks complete with correct chords and tablature.

I hope in songbooks of others albums for too long time not remembered.

What a lovely idea- bringing story-telling into primary science! These days, literacy and numeracy seem to rule the primary school timetable and curriculum. In many schools these subjects can become a bit of dull chore. And if science gets a look-in at all, it is usually for at most, one rushed afternoon per week. It is therefore very good to find something that combines the exciting and motivating story-telling approach to literacy with science. It's a great way to make story-writing a somewhat more joyful experience and to get science to move up the agenda in your school. This book is full of delightful stories with a science theme which come from different genres. Some stories are well known such as the Giant Turnip with its link to forces; some have twists to a familiar story such as Jack and the Giant's Peach linked to plant life cycles and some have been specially devised by the authors to bring out science themes. One of these is The East and the West, a creation fable devised to help children learn about the way that a turning Earth gives us night and day. There are also great stories related to factual scientific events such as the tale of Mary Anning and her fossil collection. What all the stories share in common is that they would be a sure fire hit with children. As you read them, you can hear yourself telling them out loud to children. You can sense how readily the children would take to re-telling the stories for themselves and to go on to develop them further for themselves. So a big thumbs-up for the stories. As with all compendiums such as this, you will need to select or adapt the stories to match your school's science curriculum and your children's level. There is nothing to stop you looking at compasses whilst doing magnets (The Magic Stone) or going into parallel circuits (Lighthouse Keeper's Son) but neither of those science ideas are part of the new primary science curriculum for England. There is also a page with each story suggesting possible linked science activities. In the same way, the activities are often useful and interesting but don't always have a direct link to the statements in the curriculum. For example, the simplest story in the Physics section - suitable for those in years 1 & 2, is the Giant Turnip with its obvious links to pulls and forces. Sadly there is no work on forces in KS1 in the new curriculum. Sh - don't tell - but there is nothing to stop you doing the story with that age group. You just won't get to tick off NC statements as you do it. The science activities are not the central point of this book and they are there to help bolster up the science in the stories. You would need to add to them to cover important areas such as finding out children's ideas at the start of a unit of work so children can recognise what they've learnt. You would also need to develop your own activities to do with Working Scientifically so you can develop it beyond the basic fair test, as laid out in the new curriculum. But use the approach, dip into this treasure chest and even develop your own stories to match your current science ideas. The children will thank you for it. -- Anne Goldsworthy Sitting down to draw our thoughts together on this great resource book, I re-read the last Facts & Fiction and came across this from Martin Murrell's letter, 'storytelling is used by all good teachers of all subjects - and always will be.' Spot on for this book. The book is aimed at primary level (although I could imagine some of the topics could be used in year 7 at secondary schools and by special needs providers) and covers the three science disciplines. 24 topics are provided and there is at least one story for each topic. From a teacher's point of view the use of storytelling helps make sense of scientific concepts without oversimplifying them. In particular we felt it will make science appeal to boys and girls equally by encouraging teachers to think outside the box when teaching science. A particularly good example of this is the Chemistry chapter about the Uses of Materials with The Fairy Godmother's Day Off as the story (a comic alternative Cinderella story). The comedy of the story and the allusion to a well-known story make it very appealing. Having strong female characters in the story will engage girls who are often less confident scientists than boys. The activities suggested are very hands on - a treasure hunt to find materials and investigations to test the strength of materials. These will really capture the children's imaginations and enable them to achieve the learning objectives regardless of their ability level. The activities can easily be adapted or extended. As a storyteller, I was impressed with the range of stories. They include folk tales, real life stories (eg Edward Jenner and the smallpox vaccine), mythology, fantasy, poetry and Jack stories. The stories are often funny and allowed to remain brutal when appropriate. There are two clear reasons to consider purchasing this book, particularly if you tell stories in schools as many of us do. Firstly you will have some great stories at your disposal. Secondly, it provides a fantastic model and guide for integrating stories into specific areas of the curriculum. The approach taken can be applied to any subject and indeed links with other subjects are suggested. This excellent addition to material on the early years of the CIA covers the heyday of the Cold War, from the middle 1940s to the middle 1960s. The book focuses on the careers of four operatives: Frank Wisner, Richard Bissell, Tracy Barnes, and Desmond FitzGerald, all of whom helped guide the covert actions and growth of the CIA. Bissell was best known owing to his involvement in the Bay of Pigs fiasco, but Wisner, as the early director of covert operations, was the key figure in the agency's early history. All four appear to have been more interested in the big operation, which could go spectacularly wrong, than in the slow process of intelligence gathering. Much of this same material is covered in Burton Hersh's more critical The Old Boys: The American Elite and the Origins of the CIA (LJ 2/15/92). Fascinating...disturbing

This is an interesting insight into the early days of the CIA. Essentially, all the stories of the "good-ol'-boys" networks and philandering are true. The read, however, is extremely interesting as are the blunders which happened frequently during the CIA's youth.

What a great book. If you find the CIA fascinating, then this is a must read. In fact, if you find your country fascinating, you must read this book.
This isn't your typical James Bond, Tom Clancy sort of thing. Get the real stories in just about the perfect amount of detail. The characters are easy to follow and the scenarios do not require a history refresher course to delve into.
The "Four" who did dare are all geniuses and each has played a part in making sure you sleep well at night. Each person is handled deftly and the book follows in a natural chronological order.
The most fascinating part of the book definitely revolves around the Kennedy administration and Bay of Pigs fiasco. Once again, the politics of politics can turn something so clear into a mess.
The best part of the book is that it handles bigger and smaller points equally well. There are many, oh by the way type quick tales, but the larger campaigns are also handled extremely well. You will find yourself paraphrasing stories and anecdotes from this book to your friends. Great after dinner discussion stuff.
Top of my list for recommendation.

tragedy and triumph on a dark stage

Evans crafted a book that doesn't fall into non-fiction traps. Many non-fiction works miss the mark when it comes to drawing a reader in to a book about the Cold War. They show that the OUTRIGGER program was funded at $XX millions and opposed by X liberals in Congress but it collected Y amount of information from the Stassi.

Those are trivial and boring works.

This one doesn't miss at all -- it's a bullseye.

Evan Thomas' The Very Best Men reads like a thriller. You become wrapped up in the lives of Frank Wisner, Richard Bissell, Tracy Barnes and Desmond Fitzgerald and their early work in America's CIA.

Evans' book isn't just a flag waiver. There are low points, and political failures. Notably the Bay of Pigs and the tragic life of Frank Wisner.

One note: I read Robert Littell's The Company before I read this book, and I see where his characters are drawn from. What order is up to you, but if you are a fan of CIA/spy plots, then I'd read both books together for enjoyment.

Awsome.. really awsome.. I own many Fedorowicz titles but this is by far the best they have ever done so far.. The Detail is remarkable as they fill in many gaps. The pictures are first class as you might expect from JJF. RECOMMENDED

A must have

units histories. The read will like the training and deployments of these units that fought in all theaters. After reading I came to the conclusion that the majority of these unit served on the russian front and were in the thick of the fightinging all the time. To bad alot of them were destroyed there, many did true to make it to the western allied side. A clear book worth having

This book covers all German heer Sturmgeschutze units, but not Waffen-SS. Now that is only book about this subjekt in English (not included detailed unit histories). Book has a lot of interesting pictures, includ photografs all Knight Cross holders in sturmgeschutz units, but some of them have wrong captions.

I highly recommend this book for all Christians, but especially for new Christians. It is a joyous proclamation of faith, filled with amusing and uplifting anecdotes. Mr. Ziglar is famous for his motivational speeches and is highly sought after by corporate America to inspire and teach. He writes as well as he speaks and anyone who reads this book will greatly benefit from his shared experiences in Christian living. In today's world a book that focuses on the positive aspects of Christianity is welcome and this book is tops in that category. I have shared this book with many of my friends and if you are looking for a good book to give to a young person, graduate, new Christian, or anyone else, I highly recommend "Confessions of a Happy Christian." The doctrine is sound, the advice is excellent and the book is focused on the love and joy of living the Christian life.

I read this book and thoroughly enjoyed it. I gave a copy to my father who liked it so much that he commented "Next to the Bible, it is the best book I have ever read!" Of course some narrow-minded people consider the Bible too narrow.
